Last Tuesday was my first class and considering it was statistics and math is similar to open heart surgery in terms of my ability to complete it, the class really went well! My prof (the twenty-five year old mentioned in my last post) is actually quite nice and takes the time to explain the concepts. That does not mean that after the class I felt like I could do well in her course, I was still internally clutched in a fetal position, but it helped to know that she was going to help the class succeed. So that was Tuesday.
Wednesday was a whole new ball of wax. I had two classes with 6 hours lieu time in between which I planned to use for my online course. Wednesday was all about university. My first class was great and there were three other Adult Learners (I like that rather than mature students). The prof, although still very close to my age, is funky and enthusiastic and maybe a little bit of a hard ass but the content of the course is Adulthood! HAH I can do this course, hell I have more adulthood under my belt than 96% of my class (see I was using a statistic there). Then the prof did something that has become a common theme of the university experience. She assigned group work! Now group work as a concept is fine, I mean who wouldn't want to divide the workload but group work in reality means that someone is going to do too much work and someone is going to do too little and there is bound to be resentment. My other dilemma is that I don't want to be grouped as an adult but I feel foolish trying to get into a young group! Oh my stomach cannot handle all this over analyzing. I was in luck this class too as someone from my work life happened to be in my class and we are of a similar age and she had made a connection with the girl who sat beside her who was twenty (if a day) and so voila! I have a group made up of both my age and the mean university age (another statistical term for good measure).
I really enjoyed my morning class and I was on a high for several hours until I went for dinner. But that is a story for my next blog.
You rock Melis ;) Mean lol first came across that term in psych, only to discover that it, along with 'index' would become part of my vocabulary as my degree progressed ;) Ahh Social Statistics how I do not miss thee! Nor your 4hr 60% of the term grade exam...which equates to 100% sweating bullets! See I too am able to apply stats ;)
